Karlovy Vary
Situated in West Bohemia in the shadow of the Krusne mountains, Karlovy Vary is the largest of the three towns which comprise the Bohemian spa triangle. The German name for the town is Carlsbad. Karlovy Vary sits at the confluence of two rivers, the Ohre and the Tepla. Hot mineral springs rise in the town, the curative properties of which led to the town's development as a health spa. Karlovy Vary has many walking trails in the hills around the town; there are also a number of half day and full day excursions to nearby towns such as Loket, Cheb, Nejdek and Tepla. Karlovy Vary is an easy day trip from Prague by either a direct bus service or by train. One of the first things a visitor will notice when setting foot in the town is how everybody seems to be sipping water from the characteristic spa cups which are on sale everywhere.
The Czech Republic has developed a reputation for low cost film production. The "Bourne Trilogy" and "Casino Royale" both shot scenes in the country. Grand Hotel Pupp featured in the Bond film as the casino and a number of location shots were filmed around the town.
